Welcome to Linz

UEMS HPB Preparation Course 2026

Two days. One focus. Your next step in HPB surgery.

Are you preparing for the UEMS HPB examination — or simply passionate about hepatobiliary surgery and looking to take your knowledge and skills to the next level?

Join us in Linz, Austria, on 3–4 December 2026 for a focused, interactive and clinically oriented preparation course designed for the next generation of HPB surgeons.

The course will place a strong emphasis on liver surgery and perioperative management — combining practical clinical knowledge with the perspectives and insights that matter when preparing for the UEMS examination. Our experienced faculty brings together active clinical expertise and first-hand examination experience, offering not only the knowledge you need, but also valuable insights into how to approach the exam with confidence.

And because preparation is more than reading guidelines and answering questions,
we will finish with test examinations that allow you to challenge yourself, identify
gaps and experience the exam setting in a focused and supportive environment.

More than a preparation course

We want this meeting to be more than just two days of lectures.

We want Linz to be the starting point for a network.

HPB surgery is a highly specialised field, and the future of our discipline depends on collaboration between young surgeons across institutions and borders. This course offers an opportunity to meet colleagues from Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Central and Eastern Europe and beyond, exchange experiences, discuss challenging cases and start building professional relationships that can last well beyond the course.

Why Linz?

Located at the heart of Central Europe, Linz is a city where tradition meets innovation. Its dynamic atmosphere, growing medical community and young, forward-looking medical faculty provide the perfect setting for a meeting focused on the future of surgery.

Easy to reach from across Central Europe, Linz offers an ideal place to combine high-level surgical education, professional networking and a few days of discovering a modern Austrian city.

Whether you are preparing for the UEMS HPB examination, considering a future career in hepatobiliary surgery, or simply looking for an opportunity to connect with like-minded young surgeons:

Come to Linz. Bring your questions, your ambition and your curiosity.

Learn. Challenge yourself. Connect. Build your HPB network.

We look forward to welcoming you to Linz on 3–4 December 2026.

Course Introduction

The Linz UEMS HPB Preparatory Course 2026 is a focused, exam-oriented two-day programme designed for surgeons preparing for the UEMS HPB examination. The Course follows the patient’s path from selection and perioperative optimisation to operative strategy, pathology and oncological outcomes, emphasising what candidates are expected to know, explain and justify in the examination setting.

Faculty with extensive experience in HPB surgery, oncology, radiology, pathology, and perioperative care will translate guidelines, consensus statements, and current evidence into clear clinical decision-making algorithms. Particular attention is paid to common exam pitfalls, mandatory versus academic diagnostics, technical difficulty assessment, bail-out strategies, and multidisciplinary thinking.

This Course is ideal for fellows and early consultants aiming to consolidate their knowledge, sharpen exam performance, and align daily clinical practice with European standards in HPB surgery.
